Isolation

COMPASSIONATE CARE FOR THOSE NAVIGATING SOCIAL ISOLATION ISSUES

If you are struggling with loneliness, social isolation and the mental health issues associated with this it can be difficult to see a clear path ahead or envisage a happier future.

While it may feel like you’re the only one experiencing these challenges, in reality, loneliness and social isolation among Australians are now considered some of the country's most pressing mental health concerns according to the AIHW

Whether you are someone with few relationships, have infrequent social contact or instead experience a lack of connection to others in social situations, feelings of loneliness can occur. For some, this isolation can then contribute to a decline in overall mental health.

Feelings of loneliness or social isolation can affect anyone, at any stage of life regardless of gender or age - even in those who have previously never struggled with this.

Seeking help with isolation and loneliness is vital to regaining happiness and a better quality of life. Without the professional support offered by a psychologist for isolation issues, you are more susceptible to experiencing:

- Emotional distress

- Suicide ideation

- Poor self-esteem

- Depression

- Anxiety

- Paranoia

- Low energy/motivation

- Headaches

- Feelings of nausea or sickness

- Poor health behaviours (smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, inactivity, poor sleep)

- High blood pressure

- Impaired immune function and more.

If you have experienced or are experiencing any of the above as a result of social isolation and loneliness, we encourage you to reach out. A brighter future and a socially enriched life are possible with the right support.
