LEARN STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING ANXIETY WITH OUR PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

A significant percentage of the Australian population struggles with anxiety and it is one of the most common mental health issues affecting Australians today. According to Beyond Blue, one in every three women and one in every five men contend with anxiety at some point in their lives.

Anxiety is often misunderstood or downplayed due to the simple belief that it is normal and that everyone feels stressed, anxious or worried from time to time. While this is true, chronic anxiety is entirely different and can be incredibly debilitating for those living with it.

They may experience:

- Panic attacks

- Avoidance of situations that make you feel anxious

- Catastrophising (imagining disastrous outcomes in all or most situations)

- Excessive fear and worry

- Racing thoughts

- Insomnia

- Physical symptoms such as sweating, tremors, dizziness, headaches, nausea, diarrhoea, heart palpitations, rapid breathing and more.

While overcoming chronic anxiety is not always easy to do, several strategies can be learned through counselling to help you manage it and improve your quality of life.

The effectiveness of each of these management strategies varies from person to person and it may take time to find the right combination for you. Seeing a psychologist for anxiety can help you learn these while also helping you to identify and manage the factors contributing to your anxiety.

By uncovering the causes of your worries and fears, counselling for anxiety can teach you how to see situations as less frightening and empower you with better coping and problem-solving skills.
