Michelle is the Director and Principal Psychologist of Port Phillip Psychology.  She has been a registered psychologist for 20 years and has a Masters in Forensic Psychology.  Her early career was spent working in forensic areas including Drug and Alcohol rehab,  Juvenile Justice and with sex offenders in prisons and community settings.

In her 30s Michelle worked with the unemployed assisting them overcome barriers to employment and completing psychological assessments for various welfare payments.  Following the birth of her daughter she decided to enter private practice specialising in family counselling.  She completed several specialist courses in relationship and children’s counselling and became passionate about helping families stay together and overcome hurdles.

Michelle’s has worked with many complex relationship issues such as blended families, sexual incompatibility, infidelity, financial issues, trust, betrayal and coping with illness within a family. In addition, Michelle specialises in Sexual Addiction including addiction to pornography, internet chat rooms, multiple partners and sexual fetishes.

She writes a blog about sex, love and relationships in Australia titled, Sexdownunder and has been on The Project, Today Tonight and written articles for various magazines.

Michelle is based at CHELSEA and is available Tuesday to Saturday.  She also offers Skype and phone counselling.

Julia is a Registered Psychologist with over 10 years counselling experience.  Julia works with both children and adults and sees her work as a collaborative effort between her and her clients to achieve their goals.  Julia brings a sense of humour, compassion, respect and honesty to her work and is passionate about helping people to overcome their difficulties and develop the personal strength and life skills necessary to be able to live their life to it’s fullest.

Julia is experienced in working with several therapeutic approaches including psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Play Therapy, applying them as appropriate to her clients’ needs and personal style.

Julia works at CHELSEA on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Principal Psychologist: St Kilda

Michael Edwardson has been a registered psychologist for over 20 years after graduating from Melbourne University and beginning his psychology career as a counsellor with Lifeline.  He went on to develop a corporate practice in Sydney and Melbourne as an Australian Psychological Society (APS) endorsed organisational psychologist.

He has a passion for working with the individual in the context of the reality of their world of work, home, relationships, transitions, hopes and dreams.

He is a trained Acceptance and Commitment Therapist and also Existential Therapist, and especially works on the meaning in client‚s lives and the values and actions required to live a fully engaged and vital life. As a Medicare approved General Psychologist he also uses the Focussed Psychological strategies of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Interpersonal Therapy and Psychoeducation in the counselling process. He sees clients with a broad range of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and anger management.

Michael works at the ST KILDA office on a Monday to Friday (day and evening) and Saturday morning.

Connie is a registered psychologist and nurse with extensive experience in various health sectors. She has experience working in primary and early adolescent schools and assisting children overcome their issues.

In addition to children she has experience counselling adults with a range of issues such as health, child rearing, divorce, grief, family difficulties, self-esteem, refugee and migrant experiences, anxiety and depression.

She uses a combination of therapy techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Play Therapy (with children).

Connie works at our CHELSEA office on Thursday and Friday.

Mental Health Social Worker & Family Therapist

Renate has over 20 years experience working with individuals, couples and families. She provides counselling for a range of life issues, including loss and grief, trauma, self-esteem, relationship and life stage difficulties and transitions.

Renate has a background in mental health, child and family work and disability. Hers is an eclectic style which draws on a wide range of bodies of knowledge and interventions.  She incorporates elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Family Systems Approaches and Trauma understandings.  In her couple work she draws on variety of approaches, including the Gottman Method and has training in relationship, marriage and family therapy.  Renate aims to provide a safe emotional space for clients to undertake change.

Renate works at our CHELSEA practice on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays.
